Project Summary

Preloaded approached Experience Solutions to help them with a project for Channel 4, who wanted to build an online community to support a photography competition TV show, Picture This.

With plenty ideas and excitement, Preloaded and Channel 4 struggled to agree on which ideas to develop, and which users they should focus the product on. Experience Solutions were invited to help the project team focus on how to deliver a great online community that would really support its users.

To help remove opinions from the decision making process, and to prioritise the requirements for the online community, we created a Requirements Capture project. The project was designed to interview a range of users with differing photography experience to understand the varying needs and expectations of a photography online community.

The research concluded that the intended audience was unlikely to fully engage with the concept, as their needs were satisfied elsewhere. From the research findings it was clear that if the Picture This online community was focused on helping ‘newbies’ to develop their skills in a structured and supportive community, Channel 4 would have a unique multi-channel offering.

The Picture This project is now a successful part of the Channel 4 multi-channel portfolio.
