Experience Solutions first began speaking with the MS Society whilst the charity was looking to find a CMS provider. Our first discussions revolved around understanding the users and their needs and expectations, before committing to the technology. We were delighted to be selected to provide the user research and information architecture for a new MS Society website. We approached the project in three phases:
User workshops and focus groups - We designed a workshop that the MS Society New Media team took around the UK. The workshop was designed to encapsulate the different needs users have of the website at varying levels of engagement. The output from the workshops provided a prioritised list of user needs.
User profiling - A workshop was held at MS Society HQ with representatives from different departments to discuss the many user ‘types’ they experience day to day. The result was 19 user types each with a variety of needs. Through our user profiling process, we were able to create six final user profiles that represent the wider audience.
Our usability experts undertook a user experience audit of the existing MS Society website along with a number of competitor and peer websites. The audit was focused on completing the typical tasks of each of the six user profiles, which allowed us to make recommendations on how the new MS Society website can provide a superior user experience.
The findings from the research were then analysed to create a recommended high level structure for the new MS Society website. We created Wireframes of the core page templates that were designed to ensure that all users can find what they are looking for easily.
The final report and architecture was highly received following our presentations to the project team and the Board, who subsequently approved the output for development.
The site is currently in development and Experience Solutions continue to play a part in providing user insight at critical milestones. We are very much looking forward to the final website.
